Get Them Before They are Gone! Waxing Poetic Retired Items- 2019

While anxiously awaiting the new arrivals from Waxing Poetic, it is time to say goodbye to some old favorites.

The 2019 Waxing Poetic retired items list has just been released, and there are a lot of surprises. Read on to see which pieces are being left behind in 2018.

Natural Beauties

Among the retiring charms are some of our favorite nature-inspired pieces. We will miss the beautiful Natural Beauty petite two-tone charms with sparkling crystals.

While the large white pearl Moon Daisies are staying for now, the smaller black pearl Moon Daisy is no longer going to be available.

We love this sweet two-tone bee! ūüźĚ It is a great way to unify your silver and gold-toned pieces in a layered necklace look.

Celebrate Your Story

The Quatrefoil and Petite Poetic Insignia initial collections are also being retired. This leaves only the Chancery and Century Insignia for those who collect the initials. Luckily we still have a lot of the other retired styles available at Versant. We love mixing the different styles!

The Waxing Poetic retired list this year includes some standard personalization pieces that have been around for a very long time. A lot of people collect the retiring birthstone foundation stones to celebrate family members. Make sure to pick yours up for any pending arrivals before they are gone!

The Heartlock charms are also part of the Waxing Poetic retired list. Each of these lock-shaped charms is engraved with a different relationship.

We love using these charms to symbolize the special people we have locked within our hearts.

Strength & Protection

This year’s Waxing Poetic retired charms also includes some powerful symbols of strength and protection.

One of our favorite statement pieces- the Eye of the World pendant- is being retired in the aquamarine, citrine, and sapphire stones.

We love this thick mother-of-pearl slice captured within a brass cage and emblazoned with the protective eye!

The Seppo Star Plate Choker is also being retired this year. Engraved with the North Star, it makes a bold statement in a minimalist way.

The Supernaturals Hand of Fatima charm is also being retired this year. The reverse of this charm is engraved “GOOD FORTUNE,” capturing the symbolism of abundance and protection associated with the hamsa.

Aside from the many charms being retired, we are also saying goodbye to several chain styles.

The ever-popular twisted link chain in sterling silver and brass is being put to rest ūüėĘ. We love the texture of this chain. Still available in limited quantities in 18″, 24″, and 30″- this is one you should grab before it is gone!

We are also losing the Denso black leather necklace. This relatively new style is great to give your charms a more casual look. The contrast with the black leather lets the beauty of the metal charms really stand out.

The Denso necklace is available in both a choker length and a longer 28″ version.

The gold-plated baby ball chain is also set to be retired. This has been a staple for our petite two-tone charms for many years!

The baby ball chain is made in 16″ and 18″ versions. The 16″ length is great for layering your smaller charms.

We are sad to see all of these Waxing Poetic retired pieces go, but it means that they are making room for some great new collections! See something on the list that you must have? Make sure to snap it up before it is gone forever! We always offer free shipping on jewelry purchases over $50!

Fall Style- How to Get the Layered Look

Getting the Layered Look for Fall

Fall is the season for layers- and we don’t just mean clothing! ¬†We love the look of layered necklaces- it’s a great way to stay on-trend while showcasing more than one of your favorite pieces. Find out how to achieve that layered look with our Layering 101 how-to guide!

Pick a Focus Piece or Theme

You want your layered pieces to form a cohesive group.  Picking a theme, such as a color, metal, or symbol, can help pull all of your pieces together.  Alternatively, start out with one of your favorite pieces you would like to be a focus and find pieces that are natural complements to this piece.

For our example, we chose to focus on one of our WinterLemon natural sapphire necklaces.  We love the raw gemstone set in gold vermeil for our fall wardrobe!

Antonia Raw Sapphire Necklace

The necklace we chose as our focus contrasts warm yellow gold with a cool grey tone in the gem.  To pair with this, we chose some pieces in various lengths that feature the same yellow gold and grey contrast.

Start Long

We like to start with our longest piece first.  A long necklaces anchors your grouping, helps center your focus, and keeps your look from being too top heavy.  We like to choose our heavier pendants and chains for our longer necklaces.

Yellow Gold Thortiuda Pendant & Chain

For this layered look we chose one of our large yellow gold Thortiuda pendants on an anchor chain with a light grey chime.  We love the versatility of the Thortiuda line- the colored interior chime is interchangeable, making it customizable to a wide range of looks.

Add Your Focus

After we anchor our look with a long piece, we like to add our focus piece. ¬†Your focus piece is the piece that you can’t live without. ¬†Adding it in early helps make sure that you choose pieces that don’t have a similar length or overpower it. ¬†We like our focus piece to be between 16-20″ in chain length, as this is the piece that is usually most noticeable at first glance.

layered looks

We chose our raw sapphire necklace to be the focus piece for this look. ¬†On a 16″ bar chain, it is a good length and has an interesting chain that helps set it apart without being too heavy.

Fill in Space with Varied Shapes & Textures

The next step is to fill in some of the space between your anchor and focus pieces with a new variation on your theme.  Choose a piece that complements your theme in one way but adds something different in another- this can be an added color, new texture, or unique chain.

layered looks
Freida Rothman Maltese Marquise Necklace

For this look, we chose the Freida Rothman Maltese Marquise necklace. ¬†At 18-20″ with a longer pendant, it was a good length to bridge the gap between our raw sapphire and Thortiuda necklaces. ¬†The yellow gold and dark grey rhodium fit into our theme, but the hammered texture and use of metal to bring in color as compared to stone kept our layers from being identical to the point of being uninteresting.

Keep it Light

We like to finish off our layered look with a feather-light short necklace.  This can be a simple chain or delicate piece with a small pendant.  Choosing a daintier top piece helps keep a natural look by placing the heavier pieces low and the lighter pieces on top.

layered looks
Pyrite Wellness Necklace

For this look we chose one of our WinterLemon Wellness necklaces with a pyrite gemstone.  The pyrite has a natural look similar in color to the raw sapphire of our focus piece.  Set in a very light chain with small stones, it adheres to the look of our theme without competing with the focus piece or bringing too much attention away from our face.

Don’t Be Afraid to Break the Rules

Now that we have set out or guidelines on how to create the perfect layered look, there is only one more piece of advice– don’t be afraid to step outside of the box! ¬†Different outfits, pieces, and themes may ask you to be more or less adventurous. ¬†A busy pattern or button down shirt may not call for a longer piece. ¬†You may want less (or more!) layers. ¬†You may want to try layering groupings of chains without pendants.

At the end of the day, the only rule that you need to follow is this:  if you love it, rock it!

Featured Designer: Sorrelli Jewelry

There is a new designer in town and they have really brought the sparkle!  Our featured designer this month is a new arrival at Versant, Sorrelli Jewelry.  Locally designed in Kutztown, PA, Sorrelli is known for their gorgeous pieces adorned with semi-precious gemstones and Swarovski crystals.

Sorrelli’s Local Beginnings

Sorrelli was founded in the early 1980s by Kutztown University graduate Lisa Oswald. ¬†After moving to New York, Lisa began designing jewelry she could wear to friends’ parties in downtown Manhattan. ¬†She began her jewelry enterprise out of her Brooklyn loft, where she made each piece by hand on her kitchen table.

At the time, her twin sisters helped with the sales and marketing of Lisa’s creations. The three sisters come from a strong Italian-American heritage; Sorrelli is an appropriation from the Italian word for sisters, sorrel.  In the late 1980s, Lisa and her husband Kermit moved to back to Pennsylvania where they converted and 18th century barn into their jewelry design studio and started a family.

Lisa & Kermit still live in Pennsylvania, and continue to produce the signature designs for which Sorrelli has become known and adored around the world.  Sorrelli remains a family business, with the second generation of Oswalds joining the ranks at the company headquarters in Kutztown, PA.

The Jewelry

Sorrelli graces the jewelry boxes of celebrities, career women, and jewelry lovers of every background. The Sorrelli devotee ranges in age from her teens to her 90s (and certainly beyond). Any woman who loves a generous helping of glamour and glitter in her life is naturally drawn to the beautiful handcrafted pieces in Sorrelli’s many collections.

Each piece starts out as a metal silhouette.  The base metal of most designs is brass; each piece is plated in an antique gold-tone, antique silver-tone, bright gold-tone, bright silver-tone, or gunmetal finish.

Each collection features a unique mixture of semi-precious and synthetic cabochons and crystals. ¬†As a Swarovski¬ģ crystallized elements brand partner, Sorrelli uses genuine Swarovski¬ģ crystals in the majority of its jewelry. Semi-precious cabochons like desert jasper, reconstructed turquoise, freshwater pearls, and tiger‚Äôs eye are also used in their bold, beautiful pieces.

Lisa Oswald Collection

Within the main collection, Lisa Oswald has her own signature collection that features a more casual, bohemian aesthetic.  These pieces are great to add a touch of sparkle to your everyday look.

Sorrelli’s Black Onyx holiday collection

Beyond their core collection, Sorrelli designs limited collections featuring unique color combinations to create the perfect palette for every season. ¬†We love this year’s holiday Black Onyx collection!

We strive to seek out unique pieces with a local footprint, and Sorrelli is a wonderful addition to our jewelry family.  Stop by to see all of the new pieces in person!

The Alex and Ani 2017 Pre-Autumn Collection Arrives

alex and ani

The Alex and Ani Pre-Autumn mini collection has arrived at Versant!  Included in this small collection are redesigned versions of some of our favorite retired styles, a new Core style, and four new Words are Powerful Limited Edition seasonal bangles.

Some of our favorite core bangles were retired early this year and have, until now, only been available as the new cuffs.  With this new collection Healing Love, Godspeed, and Cosmic Balance are invited back into the bangle world!  We love both the meanings and the aesthetic of these three designs.  In keeping with the newer designs, the redesigned bangles have a more 3-dimensional feel and most of them feature sparkling Swarovski stones.

alex and ani

We love the new Cosmic Balance design with the halo of sparkling stars around the sun and moon.  The Godspeed is a nice balance of the geometric and the natural and makes a great addition to any charmed arm.

alex and ani

The redesigned Healing Love has the shape of an 8-pointed star and is the only new bangle style that does not include a crystal.  In addition to the three redesigned styles, a new symbol has been added!  The Evil Eye, a symbol of protection across cultures, is set against an ornate background and has a bright blue gaze.

alex and ani

In addition to the new core styles, four new seasonal Words are Powerful styles are included in this collection.  We love the Thankful (a great bangle to grab now and keep as a Thanksgiving gift!).  The Just Breathe is a fun gift for the Yoga girl.  Both the Wanderlust and the Create your Destiny are great gifts for the new grad setting out on their next adventure!

alex and ani

In addition to the new bangles, two new Rafaelian silver expandable necklaces have arrived in the Cosmic Balance and Evil Eye designs.  The necklaces include two moveable beads that allow for the addition of two more chain station charms.

Interested in the new Alex and Ani pieces?  It is always better to see them in person to get a true idea of their size and detail!
